What are your evening opportunities?
Outside of special events and ECCO Advocacy, we have two weekly evening volunteer opportunities:
Wellness Pantry, Thursdays from 2:30 - 6:00pm
Kat's Clothing Closet, Thursdays from 2:45 - 6:00pm
What are your weekend opportunities?
First Saturdays are our only weekend volunteer opportunity outside of special events and ECCO Advocacy, and can include those under the age of 18. On the first Saturday of every month, families and individuals volunteer from 9:00 - 11:30am. Please email volunteer@eccocharleston.org if you would like to be added to the registration distribution list.
I can't make a weekly commitment - what are your occasional opportunities? Can I just show up?
We would love your support, but respectfully require all volunteers to sign up for volunteer opportunities through Get Connected. Please find our drop in opportunities listed below:
- Clothing Sorting Shifts: Support Kat's Closet volunteers by sorting donations of clothes, shoes and household linens on Fridays from 9:00am - 12:00pm.
- Fresh & Free Farmer’s Markets: Help distribute fresh produce to community members on the third Wednesday of every month. Held under our covered drive thru, this event is divided into two shifts (8:00 - 10:00am & 10:00am - 12:00pm).
- USDA Delivery Sorting Shifts: Support our Wellness Pantry Team with sorting USDA food and community donations on the third Tuesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm.
- First Saturdays: On the first Saturday morning of every month, volunteers assist our Wellness Pantry with various tasks. This is our most popular volunteer opportunity as those under 18 years old can be involved. Please email volunteer@eccocharleston.org to be added to the registration distribution list.
What is your greatest volunteer need?
We are in need of Kat's Clothing Closet weekly volunteers on Thursdays from 2:45 - 6:00pm.
How old do you have to be to volunteer?
Due to clientele privacy, volunteers must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for opportunities occurring Monday - Thursday. Currently, our only in-person volunteer opportunities for minors are First Saturdays with the exception of Friday Drop-Ins for those 16 and older.
Can students earn service hours?
Due to limited volunteer opportunities for minors, we recommend students seek alternative volunteer opportunities to guarentee hour completion. However, we are able to accommodate some hours through First Saturdays and organizing a Drive.
How do I organize a Drive?
- Food Drive: In FY24-25, we distributed over 2.1 million dollars worth of products with 30% coming from community donations. Please email fooddrives@eccocharleston.org to receive a customized flier of our current food & hygiene needs!
- Clothing Drive: We are blessed to receive many clothing donations, but are ALWAYS in need of new socks and underwear! All ages and sizes are welcomed for both men and women. Depending on the season, we may also have additional needs. Please email crider@eccocharleston.org to learn more and/or receive your customized clothing drive flier!
- Fund Drive: Baked goods, car washes, raking leaves, anything can make a difference here at ECCO! Help fund client programs through your organized activity and know you are making a difference for a neighbor in need.
I need court ordered community service hours, how can I sign up?
As we cannot guarantee completion of hours we advise seeking alternative volunteer oppotunities, but will try our best to accommodate up to 10 hours with advance notice provided (preferably one month). We reserve the right to inquire about the nature of the offense.

How can I donate to support your mission or give in other ways?
When you give to ECCO, you provide help and hope to neighbors struggling to keep the lights on, families that cannot afford medical care, and seniors, unsure where their next meal is coming from. When you give, you’re investing directly into the East Cooper communities and the neighbors who live here.
Transparency is a key component to nonprofit organizations that follow best practices. ECCO provides the following information to individuals who are interested in knowing where we invest our resources and the impact we make by being good stewards of our donations and grant funding.
